Evansville, IN, April 8, 2011 - Berry Plastics is pleased to announce their 21st annual Earth Day celebration hosted at their Corporate Headquarters in Evansville, IN. Berry will be hosting over 1,750 local elementary students for a tour of the Evansville facility to learn about the manufacturing processes with a focus towards sustainability. The first Earth Day celebration was hosted in 1991 and included approximately 1,200 students. As the number of students has grown, so have the number of Berry employee participants. About 250 of Berry's employees will volunteer in this year's celebration; employees will act as tour guides or give presentations to the student groups.

A first in the Earth Day celebrations is an interactive project to encourage the students to find other uses for waste. Berry representatives have asked students to collect Unilever spread tubs for 6 weeks to participate in a brigade process with TerraCycle. Volunteer employees will show students how Unilever tubs are taken from pellet to pallet. Once the spread tubs are collected, they will be sent to TerraCycle to be repurposed into products like planters. Participating schools will be paid $0.02 for every tub collected. Berry Plastics has also found ways to repurpose their waste - by making plastic pallets from post industrial regrind. Berry is closing the shipping loop with many customers to reuse plastic pallets for a reduction in wood pallet waste.

The Earth Day celebration will be held on Friday, April 15, 2011. With the help of local students, Berry Plastics will be working towards a greener tomorrow for Earth Day.
